. president obama spent the better part of the hour talking about the debt ceiling. so we'll go into the details about what it is, exactly. it is a cap on the amount of money the federal government may borrow. the cap is actually set by congress. so it includes money the federal government borrows from the public. for example, u.s. bonds, right? also includes debt that the treasury owes the government, trust funds like social security and medicare. right now, the ceiling, is it set at almost $16.4 trillion. the country's borrowing already hit that mark. that happened on december 31st. so the ceiling is raised periodically because both parties, they have to have approved the tax cuts and the spending increases over the years, knowing that they're going to add to the deficits. by doing so, they increase the country's need to borrow in the future. since 1962, congress has raised the debt limit 76 times, 11 times in the past decade. i want to talk about the debate over the debt ceiling, how it affects the overall economy. our georgia tech economics professor, danny boston joining us
. it's expected it will be a strategy session on the debt limit talks next week. president obama has said he will not negoatiate on raising the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling, while house republican leader john boehner is insisting a debt increase would have to be accompanied by spending cuts to programs such as medicare. boehner has promised a vote tomorrow on $51 billion in aid to hurricane sandy vicitms. theres alot up in the air at boeing after a series of leaks and electrical glitches last week involving its latest aircraft, dubbed the 787 dreamliner. the faa will begin reviewing how the airliner is designed, manufacturered and assembled, with particular attention to the miles of electrical wiring used instead of heavier hydrallic systems. in a statement, boeing says "we are never satisfied while there is room for improvement. we welcome this opportunity to conduct this joint review." joe schwieterman of depaul university says it is too early for investors to be worried. "investors get nervous when there are these rollouts and there are problems. if this gets worse, boeing's stock

for sort of a mini correction? >> well, we talked about last year that we had uncertainties to overcome, whether -- first, it was whether obama care was going to be the law of the land, then who our president was going to be, and then last piece in the puzzle, which unfortunately is going to take a little while to figure out is the fiscal cliff because the next component of it is going to be the debt ceiling. so i mean it is going to create some uncertainty. if we get into real tension negotiations, you know, it could be ugly again, and i don't see a big huge drop, but we could see a lot more volatility. liz: dan is tuning out anyway because he has a whole bunch of picks that he hopes will have the same type of return that he had for six months on genesse wyoming. your first pick is down 10% over the past year, it's an aerospace pick. >> one of my best analysts did great work on this. it's been a holding on us. owned more and owned less. great longer term holding. they've hit some speed bumps, but we feel comfortable as they're in a good position as the aerospace area continues to grow.
